THE LOUNGE

Crime Scene,
the latest bash in a series of monthly themed six-hour art parties
organized by Teresa Korber’s Art Nouveau Events, poses the question,
“What crime would you commit if you could get away with it?”
Jason
Nugent, Cary Polkovitz and Mo Brenner and more than 20 other artists
will respond to that question with art works that include paintings,
mixed media works and photographs. Expect crime scene décor and photos
and the event’s usual goodies such as body painting by Georgette
Pressler, drink specials, sushi and DJ Joshua Daniel spinning throughout
the night. The party starts at 8 p.m. April 20 .

From February's event:
LOVE STRUCK/LOVE SUCKS
At this post-Valentine’s Day show, artists will ponder the idea of being
love-struck and how it feels to realize just how much love can suck.
Exhibiting artists will include T-shirt designer Amy Love; henna artist Lori Cataldo; painter and sculptor Cary Polkovitz; mixed-media artist Janique Booker; body-painter Georgette Pressler; and photographers Zac Padgett, Amy Birdsong and Jason Nugent.
Nugent will present “Fungus Heart,” a photo of a tree trunk with a
red heart-shaped fungus, and “Candy Drugs,” which depicts candy
conversation hearts spilling from a box beside a razor blade. Several of
the candy hearts have been cut and lined like cocaine.
“’Fungus Heart’ is a photo I snapped a couple of years back while
wandering through the grassland preserve west of Beeline on Northlake
Boulevard,” Nugent explains. “I saw it and thought it was neat that
nature would form a heart like that. Plus, the fact that it’s fungus
makes it more entertaining to me. ‘Candy Drugs’ is an idea my girlfriend
came up with. I’m not exactly sure which direction it goes in as far as
love-struck or love sucks. I suppose it’s a mini commentary on how love
is a drug. I guess the real direction is left up to whoever is looking
at the photo.”
The art party will take place from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16. DJ Joshua Daniel will spin music, and sushi will be served. The event is the latest in a monthly series of one-night art shows painter Teresa Korber of Art Nouveau Events presents at the Lounge, 517 Clematis St., in West Palm Beach. Art Nouveau
Third Wednesday of every month at the Lounge, 517 Clematis St., West Palm Beach, Artnouveauevents.com
In 2009, painter Teresa Korber created Art Nouveau Events, which hosts
monthly one-night art parties at the Lounge. The shows are popular among
artists who love the themes, party atmosphere and exposure. Works
include acrylics, spray-painting, photography, glass-blowing, live
body-painting, jewelry and food created around themes such as love,
Willy Wonka, carnivals, deadly sins, tattoos and Nightmare Before
Christmas. The next six-hour art party, which starts at 8 p.m. Jan.
19, is titled Steampunk and will explore an era when steam power was
still widely used. The show, which will incorporate elements of sci-fi
& fantasy, will also feature anachronistic technology or futuristic
innovations.Tom Maley's "Return of Icarus" (pictured here) will be
parked outside. Other artists will include photographer Scott White,
mixed media artist Oopsie Cake, painter Danielle Osmanski, photographer
Kris Starry and others.
